Tartans Strong in Regular Season Finale

(ALLIANCE, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team nearly finished the regular season with two wins but were a few points short, splitting competition at the University of Mount Union, Saturday afternoon. The Tartans are now 14-16 overall heading into next week's University Athletic Association Championship.

The Tartans opened against Mount Union, falling 3-0 with games one and two played to two points with the hosts winning both 25-23 before taking game three by a 25-15 score. Sophomore Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) led with 14 kills, 11 digs and two block assists. Junior Senna Parsa (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) totaled 10 kills and two block assists while freshman Emily Lawlis (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) led with 18 assists and 11 digs. Junior Emily Wright (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) picked up 11 assists while junior Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) had 13 digs and junior Olivia Mora (San Antonio, Texas/Saint Mary's Hall) had three block assists.

Carnegie Mellon rebounded with a 3-2 win against Heidelberg University who they fell to 3-1 the first weekend of the season.

In the five game match, Celentano tallied 22 kills, 14 digs, two block assists and one service ace to lead the Tartans. Parsa finished with 15 kills, two block solos and two block assists while junior Rachel Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) had 13 kills and 15 digs. Lawlis dished out 23 assists and picked up 12 digs while Wright had 22 assists. Nichols led with 20 digs while Mora and freshman Rebecca Wolfinger (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley) each had two block assists.
