Celentano Named AVCA All-Region

(LEXINGTON, Ky.) – Sophomore right side Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) of the Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team was named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Region team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Celentano receives the honor days after being named to the All-University Athletic Association squad.

Celentano ended the season with a team-high 375 kills while ranking fifth in the UAA.  The sophomore finished the season with a career performance at the UAA Championship Tournament, as she recorded back-to-back matches of 30 kills or more.  She tallied 30 against Case Western Reserve before topping that performance with 36 in the Tartans win over Rochester.  Celentano also led the team with a .276 hitting percentage with a career-best .875 in a Tartan win over Pitt Greensburg. The sophomore was third on the team this past season with 49 blocks while tying a career-high with six against Marietta.

Celentano becomes the Tartans ninth all-region selection in program history and sixth person.  Aislinn McCloskey was the last to receive the honor as she earned the honor after the 2010 and 2009 seasons.
