Volleyball Team Set to Dig Pink at UAA Round Robin
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon women's volleyball team
will dig pink this weekend, as it prepares to host the UAA
Volleyball Round Robin in Pittsburgh. The Tartans have dedicated
the weekend to raising funds for breast cancer research.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to make an impact in the
fight against breast cancer," said head coach Kim Kelly. "We all
know someone who has been affected by breast cancer, and our
players wanted to use the volleyball arena to make a
difference."
Last weekend, members of the women's volleyball team worked in
conjunction with the football team to raise funds for breast cancer
research at the Cindy Lackner Memorial Football Game. The
initiative raised more than $4,000 in honor of Cindy Lackner, the
wife of head football coach Rich Lackner, who passed away in August
after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
At the UAA Volleyball Round Robin, members of the football team
will accept contributions for breast cancer research throughout the
weekend. All funds will be targeted for the University of
Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI). Because the funds will be
directed toward breast cancer research, they will qualify for a
matching grant program. All of the dollars raised at Saturday's
football game will also qualify for the matching program.
If you would like to make a contribution, please visit the UPCI website to make a gift online, through the mail
or via telephone. All checks and gifts should reference the "Cindy
Lackner Memorial Football Game" in the memo.
