Volleyball Ends Volley Against Violence Splitting A Pair; Coach Kelly Wins 400th

(NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team competed in the second day of the Westminster College "Volley Against Violence" Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, August 31 and moved its 2013 record to 3-1 after splitting a pair of matches.  The Tartans opened with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 26-24) win over Baldwin Wallace before dropping a 3-0 decision to the host Titans (30-28, 25-16, 28-26).  With the Tartans win over Baldwin Wallace, it marked career win 400 for Tartan Head Coach Kim Kelly and her 150th win at Carnegie Mellon.

Junior Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) and senior Senna Parsa (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) once again led the attack for the Tartans in both matches Saturday afternoon.  The two combined for 67% of the Tartans kills.  Celentano had 11 against Baldwin Wallace and 16 in the setback to Westminster while Parsa had 12 and15, respectively.

Sophomore Emily Lawlis (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) assisted on 31 points in the Tartans victory before recording 24 assists against the Titans.

Defensively, senior Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) led the team with 11 digs against Baldwin Wallace while fellow freshman Ivana Vlahovic (Sunny Isles Beach, Fla./Miami Country Day) totaled nine along with Parsa.  In the setback to Westminster, Nichols again led the team with 12 digs and freshman Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla.) picked up eight. Senior Olivia Mora (San Antonio, Texas/Saint Mary's Hall) totaled six block assists and two block solos on the afternoon to lead the Tartans at the net while Parsa combined for five block assists.

The Tartans will be back on the court on Wednesday, September 3, as they travel to St. Vincent for a 7:00 p.m. dual match.
