Tartans Keep Up Win Streak on Day 1 of the DoubleTree Tartan Cup

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team furthered their winning streak to seven games as they beat Geneva College 3-1 Friday night to begin the two-day long DoubleTree Invitational. The Tartans are now 10-1 on the year as Geneva falls to 9-3.

Junior Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) led the offense with 20 kills with a hitting percentage of .432. Senior Senna Parsa (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) also tallied double-digit kills with 15 while freshman Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) totaled nine kills in 14 attempts. Sophomore Emily Lawlis (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) registered 44 assists and also picked up 19 digs defensively.

The Tartans were strong on the defensive side as senior Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) led with 19 digs, Parsa picked up 18 digs and freshman Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) contributed with 17 digs. At the net, freshman Casey Salandra (Carol Steam, Ill./St. Francis) assisted on four blocks as Celentano and Gibbons assisted on three blocks.

The Tartans face #12 Otterbein University at 8:00 p.m. before taking on John Carroll University at 11:00 a.m. and Farmingdale State College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
