Tartans Will Dance in the NCAA Tournament

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team received an at-large bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship on Monday morning, marking the third-ever appearance by the Tartans and second under nine-year head coach Kim Kelly.

The Tartans (25-9) finished the regular season on Saturday, November 9 defeating Washington University, the eighth-ranked team in the nation, to claim third place in the University Athletic Association which received five bids to the 2013 NCAA tournament.

Carnegie Mellon will face Mount Union College on Thursday, November 14 at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., at a time to be determined Tuesday. Mount Union is currently ranked 10th in the nation with a 30-4 overall record. They received the automatic qualifier from the Ohio Athletic Conference following their tournament championship win over Heildelberg and are in the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in school history.

Should the Tartans advance, they will face the winner of Penn State Behrend (22-8) and second-ranked Calvin (29-1) on Friday, November 15. Calvin will be making its 23rd NCAA tournament appearance and have played for the national championship on three ocassions, including winning it in 2010 and a second-place finish in 2012.
