Tartans Top Point Park 3-1 in Final Home Match

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team hosted non-conference opponent Point Park University (13-22) on Friday, October 30. The 24th-ranked Tartans (25-6) defeated the Pioneers 3-1 for their third straight win.

The Pioneers took game one 25-22 before the Tartans claimed the next three sets 25-19, 25-14, and 25-21. Carnegie Mellon had 44 total kills and were led by junior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) with 15 kills across all four sets. Junior Emily Newton (Manhattan beach, Calif./Chadwick School) assisted the offense with 32 assists in addition to recording 10 digs.    

Junior Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla. /Vero Beach) led the Tartan defense with 32 digs. Higgins also picked up five service aces. At the net, Gibbons tallied four block assists while sophomore Eliza Donohue (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) had two block solos to go with four block assists. Newton also recorded two block solos and two block assists.

Playing in her last home game, senior Taylor Bell (Shelby Township, Mich./Detroit Country Day School) recorded 10 digs and one service ace.

The Tartans return to action on Friday, November 6 for the UAA Championships in Rochester, N.Y. and will begin the tournament against No. 20 Chicago.
