Tartans Welcome Six Newcomers for 2018

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team will welcome six newcomers for the 2018 season. The Tartans will return to the court in August after recording 30 victories and back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament. The Tartans, who placed second at the University Athletic Association Championship in 2016 and third in 2017, graduated five seniors and return 13 players, including three All-America Honorable Mention honorees.

The six newcomers hail from five different states: California, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania

Vivian Beaudoin (OPP, Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional)
Vivian played club volleyball with Central Jersey Volleyball Academy and East Coast Power and will be studying in the College of Engineering. She was a three-year varsity starter and a first-team all-conference and honorable mention all-region selection all three seasons. Vivian was team captain, team MVP, Skyland Conference Scholar Athlete, and New Jersey State Coaches Association All-Star participant her senior season. Vivian received a National Honorable Mention award from the National Center for Women & Information Technology and was an NCWIT NJ state awardee for two years. Vivian was top 10 in her class and a member of National Honor Society.

Anna Cao (OH, Princeton, N.J./Princeton)
Anna was the captain of her high school team in 2017, named the 2017 Trenton Times Player of the Year, and played for Princeton Volleyball Club. Additionally, Anna was named to the West Jersey Interscholastic Volleyball League All-Star First Team for three years, was awarded the 2017-18 Princeton High School Athletic Hall of Fame scholarship, was first team NJ Group 4 in 2017, and was a 2016 GEVA High Performance alternate.

Chelsea Fan (OH, Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto)
Chelsea was a four-year member of the volleyball team at Palo Alto and played club volleyball for Academy 18 Gold.

Elizabeth Jankowski (OH/OPP, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania/Oakland Catholic)
Liz played club volleyball for Pittsburgh Elite and accumulated the following awards: Big 56 Conference First Team All-Section, WPIAL AAAA First Team (Section 4), Third Team All WPIAL, and Pittsburgh All Stars First Team All-Section. Liz was a three year Varsity Letter winner in an AAAA high school program and received the Wendy's High School Heisman, Oakland Catholic High School Winner. Liz also earned the following academic awards: Winner of PPG Foundation National Merit Scholarship, National Honor Society, President's Award for Educational Excellence (GPA over 4.0 for 4 years) and Highest Honor Roll all quarters. Liz also received the KDKA Television Extra Effort Award for academic, athletic, and community service excellence.

Carrie Stewart (MB, Victor, N.Y./Victor)
Carrie played club volleyball for VolleyFX Volleyball Club. She was named to the All-Greater Rochester Volleyball team in 2017, Sectionals All-Tournament team (2017), and the New York State second team in 2017. Carrie was a scholar athlete all four years of high school and earned the Sportsmanship Award at the New York State Championship in 2017. Carrie was first in her class at Victor High School, a member of National Honor Society and served as president, and a National Qualifier for DECA business club.

Erin Westberg (OPP, Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons)
Erin played club on a national level team for six years at Triangle Volleyball Club in Raleigh, N.C. with numerous top ten finishes in regional and national tournaments. Her team qualified for USAV Jr Nationals 2018. Erin was a co-captain 2017 for her high school team and was the 3A State Champions in 2014, 4A State Champions in 2015,  Sweet 16 in 2016, and Final Four in 2017. Erin was awarded Most Improved Player 2016, Co-Offensive POY 2017, and CAP7 All-Conference Second Team 2017. Erin was a four-year honor roll student at CGHS and earned the 2017 and 2018 Scholar Athlete Award for Volleyball. Other honors include: AP Scholar; North Carolina Academic Scholar; President's Education Award for Academic Excellence, Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards: 3 Gold Keys (individual), 1 Gold Key (Portfolio), 2 Honorable Mention (individual).  National Scholastic Art & Writing Silver Medal.
