#24 Tartans End Play at Juniata Asics Invitational

(HUNTINGDON, Pa.) – The 24th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team competed at day two of the Juniata Asics Invitational on Saturday and dropped two contests. The Tartans fell 3-2 to Christopher Newport University to open play and then dropped a 3-1 match to 15th-ranked Juniata College. Carnegie Mellon is now 2-5 overall following its play in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.

The Tartans opened play on Saturday with Christopher Newport and lost by the scores of 25-17, 15-25, 27-25, 21-25, 15-13. Seniors Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) and Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown SIEM Academy) led the Tartans in kills with 17 and 11, respectively, with Jurgens hitting .405. Junior Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) handed out 38 assists and recorded five service aces. Senior Sydney Bauer (Allen, Texas/Allen) ended with four aces.

Three Tartans had double digit in digs with junior Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) leading the way with 16. Mueller had 12 digs and So-Holloway had 11.

In the Tartans setback (26-24, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15) to the host Eagles, Mueller led with 17 kills while Jurgens had 12 and junior Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) ended with eight. So-Holloway handed out 35 assists.

Defensively, Mueller had 14 digs and four block assists. Yew finished with 13 digs and junior Sahara Aqui (Miramar, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) added four black assists.

The Tartans will travel to Saint Vincent on Tuesday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m.
