Tartans Advance in NCAA Tournament with a 3-0 Win Over Southern Virginia
(LEXINGTON, Ky.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team opened the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship with a 3-0 win against Southern Virginia University on Thursday at Transylvania University. The victory moves the Tartans record to 21-8 while the Knights ended their season at 27-8.
- A trio of freshmen led the Tartan attack with Katherine Jackson recording nine kills, Kai Herchenroether eight and Bella Woodard adding seven.
- Woodard hit .357, Herchenroether .353 and Jackson .333.
- Senior Stella Yan handed out 25 assists, had four kills, two service aces and recorded seven digs.
- The Tartans ended the match with 10 service aces, as junior Avani Seshiah led with a career-best five.
- Defensively, junior Laura Reichard had 10 digs to lead the Cardinal and Gray. Freshman Elizabeth Schlemmer ended with eight and sophomore Abby Chen had seven.
- At the net, junior Jane Dean recorded three block assists, as Herchenroether and Jackson each picked up two block assists apiece.
Notes
- The Tartans advance to the second round of the tournament for the fourth time in program history and first since 2018.
- The Tartans 10 service aces marks the 10th time this season that they have recorded double-digit aces in a match.
