Tartans Cruise to a Pair of 3-0 Wins to Close Home Quad Event

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team closed a home weekend with two 3-0 victories against Nazareth College and Westminster College to advance to 8-3 for the year.

Inside The Box Score Against Nazareth

  • The Tartans won by set scores of 25-9, 25-19, and 25-9.
  • The Tartans hit .342 with 18 kills in the second set.
  • Senior Laura Reichard led the Tartans with 14 kills in 25 attempts.
  • Sophomore Elizabeth Schlemmer hit .727 in the match with eight kills in 11 attempts.
  • Senior Mindee Lai dished out 29 assists to lead the squad.
  • Defensively, Reichard led with 11 digs.
  • The Tartans had three blocks for the match with senior Jane Dean, sophomore Kai Herchenroether, and freshman Elizabeth Phillips each had a block solo.
  • Nazareth hit -.077.
  • Freshman Julie Wu entered the third set with the Tartans lead 12-9 and served out the set as the Tartans scored the next 13 points to finish the match. During the run, Wu had three service aces including on match point.

Inside The Box Score Against Westminster

  • The Tartans won by set scores of 25-22, 25-15, and 25-15.
  • After a 17-kill performance in the first set, the Tartans collected 14 kills in the second, and 15 in the third while hitting .257 for the match.
  • Sophomore Katherine Jackson led the team with 14 kills in 28 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage.
  • Schlemmer collected another seven kills with sophomore Bella Woodard knocking down six kills.
  • Lai tallied 31 assists.
  • Junior Abby Chen led the defense with 21 digs while Jackson had five block assists.
  • Dean and Woodard each had three block assists.
