Tartans Split Action at UAA Round Robin #2

(CHICAGO, Ill.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team traveled to the University of Chicago for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2 with contests against Brandeis University and 12th-ranked Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday, October 8. The Tartans topped the Judges by a 3-0 score ahead of a tough four-set loss to WashU. The Tartans are now 13-5 overall and 3-2 in the UAA.

Inside The Box Score Against Brandeis

  • The Tartans won by set scores of 25-22, 25-12, and 25-23.
  • The Tartans hit .191 while the Judges hit .087.
  • The Tartans' offense was strong in the middle with senior Jane Dean and sophomore Kai Herchenroether combining for 13 kills and hitting .379
  • Dean finished with a team-high eight kills while Herchenroether had five.
  • Junior Elizabeth Schlemmer and freshman Elizabeth Phillips also had five kills.
  • Senior Mindee Lai dished out 27 assists to lead the squad.
  • Defensively, senior Laura Reichard led with 14 digs.
  • Herchenroether and Schlemmer each had three block assists at the net.
  • The Tartans collected 15 points off service aces with Reichard and freshman Neha Tummala each having four.

Inside The Box Score Against WashU

  • The Tartans extended the match with a 25-22 third-set win before WashU was able to fight off the Tartan comeback with a 26-24 set four victory.
  • Schlemmer had 14 kills with Dean putting down nine kills.
  • Lai had 23 assists while Tummala had 11 assists.
  • Junior Abby Chen had six service aces.
  • Reichard led with 19 digs while Lai had 17 and Chen had 16.

Notes

  • Chen's six service aces against WashU are a career-best topping her previous high of five, recorded twice in 2022 and twice in 2021.
  • Reichard has now recorded double-digit digs in six straight matches and 16 matches this year.
