Tartans Close UAA Play with a Split

(WALTHAM, Mass.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team completed play on Sunday afternoon at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #3 hosted by Brandeis University. The Tartans started the day with a 3-0 win over Case Western Reserve University and then dropped a 3-1 decision to NYU. The Cardinal and Gray end association play with a 4-3 mark and are now 16-7 overall.

  • Carnegie Mellon won by set scores of 25-20, 25-18, 25-23.
  • Two Tartans recorded double-digit kills with sophomore Elizabeth Schlemmer leading with 14. Senior Avani Seshiah recorded 10 in the win.
  • The Cardinal and Gray recorded eight service aces with freshmen Zoe Gavros and Neha Tummala each having three.
  • Senior Mindee Lai handed out 39 assists.
  • Senior Laura Reichard led the Tartans with 17 digs while junior Abby Chen added 11.
  • At the net, senior Jane Dean had two block solos and two block assists.

Inside The Box Score Against NYU

  • NYU won by the set scores of 25-11, 25-22, 22-25, 25-19.
  • Sophomore Bella Woodard led the Tartans against NYU with nine kills.
  • Seshiah, Dean, Schlemmer and freshman Elizabeth Phillips each had seven kills. It marked a season-high for Phillips.
  • Carnegie Mellon recorded 10 service aces in the nightcap, Gavros tabbed three again and Chen added three.
  • Lai finished with 39 assists.
  • Reichard again led the Tartans with 20 digs while Chen had 17 and Lai 15.
  • Phillips recorded three block assists and one block solo, as Woodward had two assists and one solo.

  • The Tartans will host a tri-match on Saturday, October 28 while playing a pair of matches against William Smith and Randolph-Macon. Action against William Smith starts at 11:00 a.m.
