Tartans Start Year in Competition with Division I Schools

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team opened its 2012 season at the Duquesne Duals in Schenley Park Saturday, September 1. The Tartan were the only non-Division I team competing in the event.

Freshman Taylor Maggiacomo (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) was the first to finish for the Tartans as she crossed the line 21st overall in a time of 19:57. Sophomore Halley Bayer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) was second on the team and finished the race in 24th-place in 20:02.

Freshman Rekha Schnepf (McLean, Va./Thomas Jefferson HS for Sci & Tech) and senior Eva Humphrey (Asheville, N.C.) were 28th and 30th finishing in 20:13 and 20:18. Freshmen Priya Patel (Piscataway, N.J.) crossed with a time of 20:54 while fellow first year Marie Barcic (Mt. Lebanon, Pa.) finished six seconds behind with a time of 21:02.

The Tartans will run again on Friday, September 16 at Slippery Rock University at Cooper's Lake Campground at 5:00 p.m.
