Tartans Host UAA Championships; Finish Eighth

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – On a cold and windy morning, the Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team hosted the 2013 University Athletic Association Championships, finishing eighth overall while University of Chicago ran to a first-place finish.

The Tartans were led by sophomore Rekha Schnepf's (McLean, Va./Thomas Jefferson HS for Sci. & Tech) 27th-place finish, as she ran the course in a time of 23:17.3. Finishing second for the Tartans was junior Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) in 32nd place in 23:27.1.

Next to finish for the Tartans was senior Catherine Paquette (Bethel, Ohio/Archbishop McNicholas) in 34th place and 23:28.6, while freshman Emily Joyce (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) was fourth for the team and 38th overall in 23:40.8. The Tartans fifth finisher was sophomore Priya Patel (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) in 39th place in 23:42.0.

Sophomore Haley Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) and junior Hailey Brown (Wellsville, N.Y./Wellsville) placed 43rd and 49th overall and sixth and seventh on the team respectively. Bryant crossed the finish line in 23:56.6 with Brown in 24:14.3.

The Tartans will next compete at the Mideast Regional on Saturday, November 16 at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. The race is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
