Tartans Honored Again! Three Named CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America

(TOWSON, Md.) – For the third straight year and fifth under six-year head coach Arron Lujan, Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer players are receiving national accolades for their achievements in the classroom and on the field. Seniors Matt Sarett (Huntersville, N.C./Cannon) and Ben Bryant (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) have been selected to the Capital One Academic All-America team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the second year with senior Christopher Madden (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) earning the honor for the first time.

Sarett takes top honors again with his second first-team selection in the midfield. Madden, the Tartans goalkeeper, was also selected to the first team while Bryant earned second-team honors for the second time.

Sarett finished his career with two goals and two assists this season and his second selection to the University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Association First Team. He currently holds a 4.0 GPA as a double major in electrical and computer engineering and biomedical engineering and is pursuing his 5-year master's in electrical and computer engineering.

Madden closed his career with a 10-3-3 record and six shutouts this season with a goals against average of 0.79. He earned All-Association Honorable Mention this year and was named UAA Athlete of the Week twice and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week once. He carries a 3.90 GPA in business administration.

A defender, Bryant led the team's defensive effort this season which was ranked 22nd in goals against average (0.65) at the end of the regular season and 29th (0.69) after two NCAA tournament games. The team also tallied nine total shutouts on its way to a 12-3-3 showing. Offensively, Bryant scored two goals and assisted on three this season bringing his career total to seven goals and 17 assists. He was also named to the All-Association Second Team for the second time in his career. The chemistry and Hispanic studies major carries a 3.65 GPA and also minors in biomedical engineering and business administration.
