Carnegie Mellon Women’s Basketball to Play for ECAC South Championship

(CENTERVILLE, Mass.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team is in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) South tournament after finishing the regular season with the best record in program history since 2002-03. The Tartans won 13 games, including five in the University Athletic Association. The Tartans only other appearance in the ECAC tournament came in 1999-2000 when they defeated Grove City for the title.

The Tartans are seeded fifth in the eight team tournament and will travel to Juniata College to play the Eagles on Wednesday, February 27 at 5:30 p.m. Juniata has an 18-8 record and fell in the Landmark Conference Semifinals to Catholic University in its last game on February 20.

The Tartans have a brief history against the Eagles, owning a 4-2 record against the Central Pennsylvania college. The programs' first meeting was during the 1987-88 season with Carnegie Mellon winning 64-44 while the last meeting came during the 2000-01 season with the Tartans also winning, 79-63.

Should the Tartans defeat Juniata, they will play the winner of No. 1 seed Moravian College vs. No. 8 seed Neumann College. See the full bracket.

This postseason appearance is the Tartans fourth overall as the program has a 1-2 record in the NCAA tournament, having played in 1988-89 and 1990-91.
