Murphy Tabbed as UAA Athlete of the Week Again

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. Murphy led the Tartans statistically over the weekend at Brandeis University and New York University while breaking an UAA record.

In the Tartans setback at Brandeis Friday night, Murphy finished one rebound shy of the school's first-ever triple-double.  The sophomore recorded an UAA record 10 blocks while pouring in 18 points and hauling down nine rebounds.  The Tartans as a team also set an UAA record with 12 team blocks that night.

In the two games, the sophomore shot 66.7% from the floor and averaged 16.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6.0 blocks and 2.5 assists.   She needs five blocks to become the school's all-time single-season leader. She currently has 61 blocks.

Murphy has now scored in double figures in 25 straight contests and in 45-of-47 career games.  She leads the nation in field goal percentage, shooting 67.1% from the floor.

The Tartans will be back on the hardwood Friday, February 20 when the University of Rochester travels to Pittsburgh for a 6:00 p.m. tip.
