Tartans Begin Total Performance Invitational

(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team opened the Total Performance Invitational at Kenyon College with two events, the 1,650-yard freestyle and the 800-yard freestyle relay. The Tartans competed against DePauw University, Grove City College, Kenyon, and Johns Hopkins University from Division III institutions and Davidson College and University of Pennsylvania from Division I institutions.

Freshman Josh Taekman (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) was the top Tartan in the 1,650-yard freestyle as he finished in 16:20.69 with senior Andrew Yee (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) a place behind him in 16:22.25. Freshman Alex Glidden (Peabody, Mass./St. John's Prep) touched in 16:24.10 while sophomore Dustin Ferzacca (Beverly, Mass./Manchester Essex) finished in 16:36.88.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the Tartans' "A" team of sophomore Sivan Mehta (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale), junior Steven Geier (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), sophomore Brian Walsh (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier), and junior Matthew Nielsen (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) touched in 6:53.58.

The meet continues on Friday morning with preliminary events at 9:30 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m.
