ITA Honors Women’s Tennis as All-Academic Team; Five Named Scholar Athletes

The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team was honored for the ninth straight season and 16th time in the last 17 years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, five players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

Carnegie Mellon University senior Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif. / Carlmont) and sophomore Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) were recently named All-America by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), joining teammates Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) and Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) who earned the honor in the fall.

Carnegie Mellon University will have four tennis players at the 2018 NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles Tennis Championships after senior Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) and sophomore Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) have been selected from the women's team and juniors Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill./Boca Prep International School) and Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) were selected on the men's side. The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship will begin on May 24 at Claremont Mudd Scripps in Claremont, California.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team has been selected to compete for the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship and will have the honor of hosting the first, second, and third rounds of competition. The appearance in the postseason event will be the 13th in 14 years. The Tartans will host action on Thursday, May 10 through Saturday, May 12 with five teams traveling to Pittsburgh.

The ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team defeated the 23rd ranked Kenyon College Ladies on Sunday, April 15 at The Club Sport and Life in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, after rain forced the match inside. The Tartans finished the match with a 7-2 victory and are now 16-3 for the year.
