Men's Soccer Alum Young Kang (CIT '92) Names Covered Team Benches

The Carnegie Mellon University Soccer Facility received a pair of significant enhancements this spring, as two covered team benches were added for the teams. The benches were made possible through the generosity of Young Kang, a 1992 CIT graduate who played four years of soccer at Carnegie Mellon.

Junior goalkeeper Christopher Madden of men’s soccer is a three-year letter winner for the Tartans with 21 career starts. In his first full season as a starter in net, he helped the Tartans to the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament with a record of 13-4-1. This marks Sarett's second academic award of the season and second NSCAA award as he was named an All-Great Lakes Region player for his efforts on the field.

Two Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer players have been named to the Capital One Academic All-America team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) following their outstanding 2012 season which included a team record of 13-4-1 and a win in the 2012 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship. Junior Matt Sarett (Huntersville, N.C./Cannon) earned first team honors while senior Ben Bryant (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) was selected to the second team.

The #6 Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team dropped a hard fought match to #10 Ohio Northern University 3-1 on Sunday, November 11 in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship at home in Pittsburgh, Pa. After a 1-1 tie through the first half, the Polar Bears were able to use momentum generated by a save from their keeper to get ahead and put away the Tartans midway through the second period.

Following back-to-back University Athletic Association (UAA) road victories for the 6th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men’s soccer team, junior Max Tassano (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion) and sophomore Jakob Rohwer (Southborough, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) were honored by the UAA and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) as Men's Soccer Athletes of the Week. Tassano earned offensive honors while Rohwer was honored on the defensive side.

Two late first half goals proved to be the difference as the Tartans improve to 11-2-1 overall and leave the Violets at 10-5-1 and 2-2-1 in the UAA.

Senior Ben Bryant (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) put in the winner a minute into extra time to help advance the Tartans' record to 10-2-1 on the season.
