Golf Team Receives Academic Accolades for 2011-12 Season

The Carnegie Mellon University golf team was one of 26 NCAA Division III institutions in receiving the All-Academic Team award from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The Tartans finished the year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.46 finishing as one of the top Division III institutions.

Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy), a member of the golf team, was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team. CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.

Sophomore Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University golf team was named to the 2012 PING Mid-Atlantic Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America. This marks Bangor’s second straight season accomplishing the honor as he becomes the ninth Tartan to be recognized regionally.

Bangor’s victory marked the sixth of his career, as he becomes the school’s all-time wins leader.

Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Golf Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, after placing second at the Kravetz Invitational last weekend. The Kravetz Invitational was hosted by the University of Rochester.

The Carnegie Mellon University golf team finished the Kravetz Invitational on Saturday, April 21 in fourth place with ateam score of 640. Nebraska Wesleyan won the invitational after firing a 631. Play began Friday at the par-72 Irondequoit Country Club with Saturday’s round being played at the par-71 Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y.

At the final day of the Edward Jones Shootout Sunday, April 15, the Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team shot a 301 to place tied for fourth. The Tartans ended the 36-hole event with a team score of 622. Allegheny College won the two-day event that was held at the par-70, The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pa. with a team score of 604.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team hosted the first day of the annual Edward Jones Shootout Saturday, April 14 at The Links @ Spring Church in Apollo, Pa. Following the first round, the Tartans are in sixth place after they fired a team score of 321 on the par-70 course.

Sophomore Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) claimed top individual medalist as the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team won the 2012 Titan Invitational hosted by Westminster College at the New Castle Country Club Monday, March 26. The Tartans fired a team score of 313, finishing nine strokes ahead of second-place Clarion University.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s golf team finished 26th out of 30 teams at the 2012 Jekyll Island Invitational Sunday, March 18. The three-day, 54-hole event was held at the par-72 Pine Lakes and Indian Mound courses on Jekyll Island. The Tartans finished with a team score of 938 (304-326-308). Their best round came Friday afternoon as they fired a 304.

On Tuesday, March 13 the Tartans fired a team score of 308. The two-day, 36-hole event is being played at the Red Tail Golf Course in Sorrento, Fla. on the 6,768-yard, par-72 course.
