Two seniors and one sophomore on the Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis team finished the year as All-Americans when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its All-America teams for 2012. Laura Chen (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) earned the honor for the eighth time while Courtney Chin (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) was named to the list for the third time to finish their respective careers. Sophomore Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) earned the honor for the first time for her play in singles competition.

Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis program received three NCAA Division III national awards from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Wednesday, May 23. Senior Cze-Ja Tam (Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) was awarded the Arthur Ashe Jr. for Leadership and Sportsmanship award, sophomore Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) was named national player to watch while assistant coach Mike Belmonte was named Assistant Coach of the Year.

Carnegie Mellon University senior Laura Chen (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) will finish her career as an eight-time All-American after a first-round singles victory at the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships on Thursday, May 24 at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. Chen also competed in doubles competition alongside fellow senior Courtney Chin (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista), as the pair advanced to the quarterfinals with a three-set win.

The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked sixth in the nation, took on #3 Amherst College in the quarterfinals of the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship on Monday, May 21, with the match going down to the wire. The Tartans came up short, 5-4, despite a marathon singles match by senior Laura Chen (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) who was determined to pull out her match in hopes of moving the Tartans to the semifinals for the first time in school history.

The Carnegie Mellon University women’s tennis team is headed to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championships next week and recently received word that five members, including both coaches, have been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) with season-ending regional awards. Schreiber) and Cze-Ja Tam (Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula), along with sophomore Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) join head coach Andrew Girard and assistant Coach Mike Belmonte as Atlantic South Region award recipients.

Led by three seniors, the #6 Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team won it's third regional title in the past four years, defeating host and #8 DePauw University 5-0 on Saturday, May 12 in Greencastle, Indiana. The Tartans swept through doubles play and received victories by their No. 2 and No. 3 singles players to finalize the win.

The Tartans improve to 17-5 and will play for the regional championship for the seventh time in eight years including the last five.

Schreiber) and Courtney Chin (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) were selected to team up in doubles play while Chen along with sophomore Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) will play in the singles competition.

The championships this season are being played at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The Tartans are now 16-4 while the Maroons improve to 18-4.

The win moves the Tartans record to 16-3 while the Spartans are now 17-5.
