Carnegie Mellon Ranks 13th in Winter Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University Department of Athletics is 13th in the final winter Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Carnegie Mellon totaled 491.50 points through the fall and winter seasons. The Tartans are one of five University Athletic Association institutions to crack the top 13 in the standings.

After earning 279.0 points for the fall season, when five teams qualified for their respective NCAA Championships (men’s and women’s cross country, football women’s soccer and volleyball), the winter season saw the Tartans claim 212.50 points.

During the winter season, both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams placed at the NCAA Championship meet. The men finished sixth and the women placed 30th. The sixth-place finish for the men marked the best finish for the program since 2005 when the team was sixth and it is the fourth highest finish in program history. The men’s indoor track and field team finished 25th at the NCAA Championship. The women’s basketball program competed in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2016 and advanced to the second round for only the second time in program history.

Carnegie Mellon joins the other seven University Athletic Association (UAA) institutions in the standings – NYU (second), Emory (third), WashU (fifth), (Chicago (12th), Carnegie Mellon (13th), Case Western Reserve (54th), Rochester (78th) and Brandeis (117th).

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.

The spring standings will begin distribution on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
