Spring 2021 Update: Full Athletic Facilities/Recreation Reopening Plans - Spring 2021 - pdf

Beginning Monday, March 1

Cohon University Center Weight Room / Cardio Area
Monday through Friday - 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Wiegand Gymnasium 

Monday through Friday - 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

*Please note: Varsity Athletics will be using Wiegand Gym at various times this spring semester. The gym will close without notice or warning.

Pool for Rec Swim
Monday through Friday - 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.; 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Gesling Stadium and Soccer Field
Monday through Friday - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tepper Fitness Center--Beginning Feb 1
Monday through Thursday - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tennis Courts
Monday through Friday - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Outside Basketball Court
Monday through Friday - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday - 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Jared L. Cohon University Center

  • Wiegand Gym (pictured right) 
    • Wiegand Gym will be open in spring 2021
    • Wiegand Gym will be open for basketball and badminton only in spring 2021
  • Equipment Desk
    • No towel service in spring 2021
    • No racquet service in spring 2021
    • No equipment handout in spring 2021
    • No locker or laundry service in spring 2021
  • Carnegie Mellon Guests
    • NO GUESTS WILL BE ALLOWED IN SPRING 2021
  • Racquetball/Squash Courts
    • Racquetball/Squash courts will be closed to start spring 2021
  • Lap and dive pools
    • 25-yard lap pool and a full diving pool with multiple diving boards
    • Home to the varsity swimming and diving teams
  • Locker Rooms
    • Locker rooms will be open with the following provisions for spring 2021
      • Capacity of each locker room is NINE
      • Showers are NOT permitted
      • Some lockers will be offline to ensure physical distancing while changing
      • Sanitizing stations have been added
      • Locker room will be deep cleaned when the facility is closed

Skibo Gymnasium

  • Skibos Gym is closed for recreation use for spring 2021
  • Club Sport leadership can contact Jarrod Novotny for information
  • Various amenities are available for open play in Skibo Gymnasium. Reservations for Physical Education, Intercollegiate Athletics, Intramural Sports, Group Exercise, Club Sports, and Student Organizations take priority. These reservations are posted weekly throughout the building. Please check hours on athletics homepage
  • During open recreation times, use of the Main Gym is limited to badminton, basketball, and volleyball (with the following court priorities):
    • Badminton: Court A (closest to the stage)
    • Basketball: Main Court
    • Volleyball: Court D (furthest from the stage)
    • All other activities must obtain written approval from Sara Gauntner
    • Any sport that could possibly damage the floor or equipment may not be played (soccer, roller hockey, frisbee, etc.)

Outdoor Spaces

  • Tennis Courts
    • See policies and procedures and information on court reservations on the tennis facilities page.
    • Reservations will continue for spring 2021
    • Reference pages 3-4 of the reopening plan document at top of page for all information, including hours of operation, for spring 2021.
  • Gesling Stadium Track
    • The stadium is home to the football team in the fall and the track and field team in the spring.
    • Intramural and club sport activities also use the stadium and it is open year round for public use.
    • Four times around the track equals a mile.
    • Parking is available in the garage and has no cost after 5 p.m. on weekdays and Saturday and Sunday are both free of charge.

  • IM/Soccer Field
    • The soccer training and playing facility is adjacent to Gesling Stadium.
    • The hammer/discus circle and shot put area used by the track and field program are along the sidewalk area.
    • The lighted field allows for the continuation of evening soccer games and intramural and recreational activities.

  • Donner Outdoor Recreation Area
    • Located in the dell between Donner and Resnick Halls
    • Full size basketball court
    • Permanent cornhole boards
    • Outdoor fitness aparatus
