Fisher Recognized with Irving T. Marsh Service Bureau Award

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Carnegie Mellon University is proud to announce that Mark Fisher, its Director of Athletics Communications, has been named a co-recipient of the 2025 Irving T. Marsh Service Bureau Award by the Eastern Athletic Communications Association (EAST-COMM). The honor, named for the longtime New York Herald Tribune sports editor, is presented annually to members who have made significant contributions to the profession through excellence in service, leadership, and dedication to the advancement of athletic communications.

Fisher, who is in his 21st year at Carnegie Mellon, has led the department's athletics communications efforts since 2004. During his tenure, he has overseen the promotion of 19 varsity sports, serving as the main contact for football, men's basketball, and men's and women's golf, while also splitting coverage for other programs and contributing to media relations across the university. Additionally, Fisher has led the implementation of communications and branding strategy in the transition to the Highmark Center for Health, Wellness and Athletics, including the incorporation of multi-angle productions across several sports and the integration of the Carnegie Mellon Athletics Hall of Fame display, which elevates recognition for Tartan honorees. He has also worked multiple NCAA Division I men's and women's basketball championship events in media operations and served as co-host of the 2012 ECAC-SIDA Workshop in Pittsburgh. A longtime member of EAST-COMM, Fisher held several leadership positions within the organization, including president during the 2016-17 academic year and past president in 2017-18.

"Mark has been an outstanding contributor to Carnegie Mellon and to the field of athletics communications. His dedication to our student-athletes is evident in every story he tells and every highlight he captures. Mark leads with humility, precision, and care—always putting our programs and people first. He’s also a tireless professional whose work ethic sets an incredible example for young professionals entering the industry. We’re proud to see his impact recognized with this well-deserved honor," said Josh Centor, associate vice president for student affairs and director of athletics.

EAST-COMM is a professional organization supporting athletics communications professionals across NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, as well as the NAIA and junior colleges in the Eastern United States. The association is dedicated to professional development, education, and the recognition of outstanding achievement in the field.
