(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team traveled to North Canton, Ohio on Monday evening to play Division II Walsh University in an exhibition contest. The Tartans dropped an 84-53 decision to the Cavaliers.
How it Happened
- A pair of free throws by graduate student R.J. Holmes midway thourgh the first half cut the Tartans deficit to 15-12.
- Over the next four minutes of play, Walsh used a 14-2 run and extended its lead to 29-14.
- The Tartans then outscored the Cavaliers 11-6 to end the half and trailed 35-25 at the break.
- Late in the second half, Carnegie Mellon rattled off nine straight points with four coming off the hands of junior Justin Allen, three from sophomore Eric Vandendriessche and two from sophomore Dylan Bronner.
- Although, Walsh outscored the Tartans 49-28 over the final 20 minutes of action and went for the 84-53 victory.
Tartan Stats
- Carnegie Mellon shot 29.0% (18-62) from the floor and 20.8% (5-24) from behind the arc.
- Junior Buckley DeJardin led the Tartans in scoring with 14 points.
- Holmes and Allen each ended with 10 points.
- Sophomore Isaac Higgs grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Cavalier Stats
- Walsh shot 48.6% (34-70) from the floor and 25.0% (6-24) from behind the arc.
- Ayden Carter led all players with 17 points.
- Zach Oddo finished with 16 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
- Three other Cavaliers finished in double figures as Quintero Barnett and Matthew Biddell each had 11 and Aiden Satterfield chipped in with 10 points.
