(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team hosted Case Western Reserve University for the final game of the season on Saturday, March 1. The high-scoring game ended with the Spartans winning, 110-104. The Tartans finish the season with a 13-12 overall record and 4-10 University Athletic Association (UAA) mark.

How it Happened

  • Case Western Reserve led for all but 45 seconds of the first half, after building a nine-point lead with a 12-2 run after the Tartans briefly led 10-9 following a Lucas Pavlounis three-pointer four minutes into the game.
  • The Spartans made nine first-half three-pointers while the Tartans hit eight which helped lead to the 60-52 score at the break.
  • The Tartans nearly erased the eight-point deficit in the first 7:20 of the second half by clawing to within one point on a three-pointer by junior Justin Allen with 12:40 to go that made it 73-72 in favor of the Spartans.
  • The Tartans regained the lead at 91-90 with 6:57 to play when senior Aidan Murphy made a layup after hitting a three-pointer on the previous possession.
  • A minute and 35 seconds later the Tartans tied it at 96-all after graduate student R.J. Holmes connected on two free throws and sophomore Isaac Higgs drained a three-pointer.
  • The tie didn't hold long as CWRU's Sam Trunley hit another three-pointer, his seventh of the game, and the Spartans would cling to the lead the remainder of the game and pushed it to as many as seven points with 1:40 to go.
