Bio

Pat Martinelli joined the Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball coaching staff as the full-time assistant coach in October 2023.

Martinelli came to Carnegie Mellon from Chatham University, where he served as a men’s assistant for four seasons. In 2023, the Cougars won the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship and earned their second appearance in the NCAA Tournament. In his four years on staff, Martinelli was involved in recruiting, on-court coaching, practice planning, opponent scouting, player development and game planning while Chatham had an overall record of 60-32 and 43-20 in PAC play while the 2021-22 squad had a school record 21 wins.

"I am pleased to add Pat [Martinelli] to my staff. Pat is an outstanding young coach, and he played a key role in four successful seasons while at Chatham along with a PAC title a season ago,” said Wingen. “Coach Martinelli has had an immediate impact on player development. The skill work sessions that he has held with our players have been terrific. Pat is an outstanding teacher and communicator."

Before Chatham, Martinelli was an assistant coach at Allegheny College for two years after serving as a student assistant during all four of his years as an undergraduate student at Allegheny.

A native of Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, Martinelli earned his bachelor’s degree in managerial economics with a minor in German from Allegheny in 2017. In addition to his role with the Gators basketball program, he worked as a student assistant in the Allegheny athletic department, primarily in the athletic communications office. Martinelli assisted the athletic communications staff in gameday management and press box operations, in-game statistic keeping, historical research and archiving and organization of both current and past athletic photography.

Martinelli and his wife, Melissa, make their home in Dormont.
