Tartans Tune Up for UAAs with Western PA Invite

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team competed in the Western Pennsylvania Invitational hosted by the University of Pittsburgh on Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28.

Top Performances Friday

  • Junior Santiago Gomez touched first in the 200-yard IM in 1:59.98.
  • Freshman Rohit Garikipati improved his season time in the 500-yard freestyle by touching first in 4:37.96.
  • Freshman Kevin Zhou picked up a season-best time in the 100-yard freestyle with a first-place showing in 46.72.
  • Sophomore James Pascale was the top swimmer in the 200-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 1:54.54.
  • Senior Seaver Dahlgren won the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.22.
  • Graduate student Jud Kyle placed third on the 3-meter board with 363.80 points after six dives

Top Performances Saturday

  • Junior Aidan Smith won the 200-yard freestyle with a season-best showing in 1:43.66.
  • Zhou had another season-best time for the weekend in the 100-yard butterfly when he touched first in 50.14.
  • Senior Aidan Wagner won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.30.
  • Garikipati swam the 1,000-yard freestyle alone and finished with a season-best time of 9:38.32 which is also a team-best time for the year.
  • Kyle placed second on the 1-meter board with 312.15 points after six dives.

Next Up

  • The Tartans will travel to Emory University for the four-day University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships which are scheduled to start on Wednesday, February 8.
