Tartans Place First in Three Events During Season-Opening Relay Meet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team began the season with a relay meet against the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday, October 5. The Tartans took second place with 53 points.

Top Performances

  • The 200-yard medley relay team of junior Arnav Deshpande, sophomore Aaron Lee, sophomore Brayden Morford, and junior DJ Lloyd earned a victory with a time of 1:30.88.
  • Freshman Michael Munder, freshman Todd Dong, graduate student Santiago Gomez, and sophomore Jacob Quan took second place in the 500-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:08.20.
  • Morford, freshman William Gao, and sophomore Harrison Quach also took second place in the 300-yard butterfly relay with a time of 2:30.32.
  • The 300-yard breaststroke relay team earned victory with senior Christian Lanuza, Lee, and junior Max Kulbida clocking a time of 2:49.19.
  • Freshman Matthew Peitler, Quan, sophomore Cole Venters and sophomore Richard Chung took second place in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:06.14.
  • The 300-yard backstroke relay team took second place with freshman Matvey Malinovski, Deshpande, and sophomore Ljubomir Popovic clocking in at 2:30.34.
  • Morford, Gao, Quach, and Gomez took second place with a time of 3:28.66 in the 400-yard medley relay.
  • Morford, Lloyd, Dong earned a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:23.04.
