Tartans Top Washington and Lee, Compete at Kenyon Diving Invite

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming team hosted Washington and Lee University on Saturday, October 19. The Tartans beat the Generals 194 to 68. The men's diving team traveled to the Kenyon Diving Invitational, competing on six dives on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards.

Top Performances

  • Senior Jonathan Lindstrom placed second in a field of nine divers on 1m with a score of 277.95.
  • Sophomore Nico Shuster placed third on 1m with a score of 271.80 and third on the 3m with a score of 254.20.
  • Sophomore Brayden Morford, senior Christian Lanuza, junior Arnav Deshpande, and junior DJ Lloyd placed first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:31.58.
  • Sophomore Miles Haraldsson placed first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:52.77. Freshman James Kaye placed second in 9:59.08. Sophomore Akira Van De Groenendaal placed third in 10:31.00.
  • Sophomore Cole Venters placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.76. Sophomore Jacob Quan placed third in 1:44.84.
  • Morford placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.58. Freshman Matvey Malinovski in 50.20.
  • Lanuza placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 56.46. Sophomore Andy Lu placed third in 59.36.
  • Freshman William Gao placed first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:54.36. Junior David Zoota placed third in 1:57.95.
  • Lloyd placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.10. Deshpande placed third in 21.39.
  • Freshman Matt Peitler placed first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.43. 
  • Haraldsson placed first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:57.21. Zoota placed second in 1:58.54. Sophomore Ljubomir Popovic placed third in 1:58.82.
  • Lanuza placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:06.69. Lu placed second in 2:10.48. Freshman Cayden Liao placed third in 2:11.74.
  • Venters placed first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:44.59. Quan placed second in 4:46.33. Malinovski placed third in 4:49.72.
  • Morford placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 49.98.
  • Sophomore Harrison Quach placed second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:56.89. Graduate student Santiago Gomez placed third in 2:00.45.
