Tartans are in Third After Day Two of Total Performance Invite

(GAMBIER, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming team competed in the second day of the Total Performance Invitational at Kenyon College on Friday, November 22. After the second day of competition, the Tartans are in third place out of eight teams with a score of 1002.5.

Top Performances

  • Junior Arnav Deshpande, sophomore Aaron Lee, sophomore Brayden Morford, and junior DJ Lloyd started the meet with a winning time of 1:27.29 in the 200-yard medley relay. They beat the meet record of 1:27.54, previously set by UPENN in 2016.
  • Morford won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 47.25 and finished the preliminaries with a time of 46.44 to set a meet record, topping the previous best time form 2016.
  • Lloyd and freshman William Gao also swam in the finals of the 100-yard butterfly and placed fifth in 49.26 and seventh in 49.48, respectively.
  • Junior David Zoota was the top finisher for the Tartans in the 400-yard IM, placing sixth with a time of 4:00.92.
  • Sophomore Cole Venters swam the 200-yard freestyle in 1:41.12, finishing fifth. Sophomore Richard Chung placed first in the B Final of the 200-yard freestyle in 1:40.98 with sophomore Jacob Quan finishing fourth in the heat in a time of 1:42.54.
  • Senior Christian Lanuza won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.27.
  • Deshpande placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 48.11, as sophomore Ljubomir Popovic placed fourth with a time of 49.40.
  • Morford, Chung, Venters, and graduate student Santiago Gomez placed third in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 6:40.83.
