Tartans Finish Total Performance Invite in Second Place

(GAMBIER, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming team competed in the third and final day of competition of the Total Performance Invitational at Kenyon College on Saturday, November 23. The Tartans finished in second place out of eight teams with 1517.5 points.
Top Performances
- Sophomore Miles Haraldsson was a top finisher in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:55.94 to place sixth. Freshman Philip Thayer was eighth in a time of 16:06.52.
- Freshman Matvey Malinovski won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:45.97.
- Junior Arnav Deshpande placed second in the 100-yard freestyle race with a time of 44.63.
- Sophomore Thomas Xiao was the team's top finisher in the 200 yard breaststroke, placing fifth with a time of 2:02.49. Senior Christian Lanuza was seventh in 2:02.51 while the Tartans went 1-2 in the B Final with sophomore Andy Lu touching first in 2:01.93 and sophomore Jerry Chu touching second in 2:02.24.
- In the 200-yard butterfly, freshman William Gao finished third with a time of 1:49.99, and junior David Zoota finished in fifth with a time of 1:51.40.
- The Tartans closed the meet with another relay championship, this one in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Sophomore Brayden Morford, junior DJ Lloyd, freshman Matthew Peitler, and Deshpande finished in a time of 2:56.08.
