Morford Earns First UAA Championship

(ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team competed in the second day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Thursday, February 13 at Emory University with sophomore Brayden Morford earning the team's first UAA Championship in the 200-yard IM since 2006. After two days, the Tartans have a total of 434 points and are in fourth place out of eight teams.
Top Performances
- The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Morford, junior DJ Lloyd, graduate student Frank Jones, and junior Arnav Deshpande opened the evening session by finishing fourth in a time of 1:20.65.
- Sophomore Miles Haraldsson placed 11th in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:32.68 while sophomore Cole Venters was 13th in 4:32.88.
- Morford then won the 200-yard IM by touching the final wall in 1:45.89, a school record and the nation's top time for the year.
- Freshman Matvey Malinovski placed 14th in the 200-yard IM in 1:51.52.
- Lloyd swam in the finals of the 50-yard freestyle, placing eighth in 20.60. Deshpande was 13th overall in 20.58.
- The 400-yard medley relay team of sophomore Ljubomir Popovic, senior Christian Lanuza, sophomore Aaron Lee, and Deshpande closed the meet with a fifth-place finish in a time of 3:17.18.
