Seven Tartans Set to Compete at NCAA Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – Seven Carnegie Mellon University men's swimmers have earned the right to compete at the 2025 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. The championship meet will be hosted at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, on March 19-22.

Senior Christian Lanuza will be making his second appearance at the meet and was invited to swim the 100-yard breaststroke and 400-yard medley relay. He will also swim the 200-yard breaststroke after meeting the qualifying standard during the year. His time in the 100-yard breaststroke ranks 11th.

Junior Arnav Deshpande will return to the national meet for the third year after being invited to compete in the 100-yard backstroke and four relays. He'll also have the chance to swim the 50-yard freestyle, where he ranks 18th, and the 100-yard freestyle where he is 23rd. His time in the 100-yard backstroke is ranked eighth. Last year, Deshpande placed 12th in the 100-yard backstroke.

Junior DJ Lloyd was also invited to the meet for the third time and was slated to swim in three relays before having to withdraw due to injury. Graduate student Frank Jones was listed as an alternate and will swim for Lloyd in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.

Sophomores Aaron Lee and Brayden Morford are returning to the national stage. Lee will swim on the 200-yard medley relay for the second year with hopes of earning another All-America award like last year's relay team did by placing sixth.

Morford has a full slate of events for the second year, with invites in the 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly, and 200-yard IM, along with four relays. His times in all three individual events put him as the top-ranked swimmer heading into the meet. Last year, Morford placed second in the 100-yard backstroke, third in the 200-yard IM, and seventh in the 200-yard backstroke.

Two first-year Tartans join in with Matvey Malinovski invited to swim the 200-yard backstroke and Matthew Peitler invited to swim the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, and four relays.

Malinovski's time in the 200-yard backstroke is seventh and he'll also jump in the water to swim the 100-yard backstroke (ranked 26th) and 200-yard IM (ranked 38th). Peitler's time in the 50-yard freestyle is 15th while his time in the 100-yard freestyle is eighth. He'll also swim the 200-yard freestyle where he is ranked 28th.

The Tartans are currently seeded third in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay, fourth in the 400-yard medley relay, and fifth in the 200-yard medley relay.

The meet starts on Wednesday, March 19 with the 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, and 400-yard medley relay.
