Four Named to All-UAA Men’s Tennis Team

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Four Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis players were honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) coaches on Tuesday with recognition on the 2022 UAA Men's Tennis All-Association Team.
Senior Sam Gibson (Chico, Calif. / Pleasant Valley) and junior Matthew Poh (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Mira Costa) received second-team accolades for their play at second doubles with sophomore Nicholas Wernink (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Friends Academy) joining them on the squad for his play at fourth singles. Freshman William Wang (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) was honored as honorable mention for fifth singles.
The duo had a record of 3-1 overall with all three wins coming during the UAA Championship following Gibson's recovery from an offseason injury. The tandem opened the tournament with an 8-3 win over the duo from 11th-ranked Emory and then closed with an 8-4 win over the pair from 14th-ranked Brandeis.
Wernick went 14-12 overall this season in singles play while Wang recorded nine wins in his first collegiate season.
