#23 Tartans Upended by #8 North Carolina Wesleyan

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team, ranked 23rd nationally, ran into another ranked opponent on Thursday in eighth-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan University and dropped a 7-2 match in Orlando, Florida. The Tartans are now 4-5 while the Battling Bishops are 2-4.

How it Happened:

  • Senior Matthew Poh and junior Nicholas Wernink recorded the Tartans lone point in doubles play with an 8-6 victory at the top spot after the Cardinal and Gray fell behind 2-0.
  • Poh claimed the Tartans point in singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 decision in the four spot.
  • Wernink and senior Raahil Doshi both forced a third-set after dropping the first while senior Jonathan Nottingham also lost in three sets.

Notes:

  • The duo of Poh and Wernink won their fourth straight doubles match after starting 1-4 as a pair.

  • The Tartans will conclude their spring break trip with a 2:30 p.m. match against 19th-ranked Southwestern University on Friday, March 10.
