Tartans Advance to Semifinals of Championship Singles at ITA Regionals
(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team traveled to the University of Mary Washington for the ITA Southeast Regionals on Friday, September 27 through Sunday, September 29. Four athletes advanced to the third day of competition.
Doubles
- Sophomore Raghav Jangbahadur and sophomore Daniel Kong advanced to the quarterfinals with a 8-7(5) win in the Round of 32, and an 8-3 win in the Round of 16. They ended the tournament with an 8-5 loss to Dylan Blenkiron and Allen Gong of Johns Hopkins University.
- Freshman Alex Feies and junior Akshay Joshi also advanced to quarterfinals with an 8-4 win in the Round of 32, and an 8-4 win in Round of 16. Feies and Joshi then fell to Asher Willenborg and Jhayden Pappas of Salisbury University, 8-7(1).
- Freshman Brendan Hendrata and freshman Will Secord advanced to Round of 32 with a 6-2 win in the Round of 64 before falling in a tiebreaker in the Round of 32.
Singles
- Jangbahadur advanced to the semifinals with an 8-2 win in the Round of 64, an 8-5 win in the Round of 32, a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (13-11) win in the Round of 16, and a 6-3, 6-0 win in the quarterfinals.
- Feies advanced to the semifinals with an 8-0 win in the Round of 64, an 8-3 win in the Round of 32, a 7-5, 6-1 win in the Round of 16, and a 6-1, 6-2 win in the quarterfinals.
- Kong advanced to the Round of 16 with an 8-2 win in the Round of 64 and an 8-7(3) win in the Round of 32.
- In B1 singles, freshman Fernando Limon advanced to finals with a 8-2 win in the Round of 16, an 8-6 win in the quarterfinals, and an 8-6 win in the semifinals.
- Freshman Brendan Hendrata advanced to the finals with wins of 8-1 and 8-4 in the Round of 16 and quarterfinals of the B1 singles brakcet. He then won 8-4 in the semifinals.

The Tartans will continue to compete in ITA Regionals on Sunday, September 29. Jangbahadur and Feies will both compete in the semifinals of championship singles. Limon and Hendrata will play each other in the finals of B1 singles.
