#21 Tartans Shutout Oberlin and Wooster

(OBERLIN, Ohio) – The 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team competed against Oberlin College and the College of Wooster on Saturday, February 8 at Oberlin. The Tartans won both matches by 7-0 scores to move to 3-0 overall. Oberlin is now at 1-3 and Wooster is 2-1. 

How it Happened Against Oberlin

  • The Tartans went two for three in doubles play with a 7-5 win from freshman Alex Feies and junior Akshay Joshi at the first position followed by a 6-4 win from freshman Will Secord and freshman Brendan Hendrata.
  • The Tartans swept singles play, starting off with a strong 6-1, 6-3 win from Feies at first singles.
  • Sophomore Daniel Kong secured a win for the Tartans when he won third singles 6-1, 6-0 and made the score 4-0.
  • Freshman Braden Chavez had the most decisive win in fourth singles with a 6-1, 6-0 score.
  • Sophomore Raghav Jangbahadur won 6-3, 6-3, Secord won 6-1, 6-2, and sophomore Theodore Gershon won 6-3, 6-2. 

How it Happened Against Wooster

  • The Tartans swept doubles play, beginning with a 6-1 win from Feies and Joshi.
  • The pairs of Hendrata and Gershon as well as Jangbahadur and freshman Takeshi Koey both won 6-0.
  • Feies had his fourth win of the day in first singles, winning 6-2, 6-0.
  • Hendrata secured the Tartans' win in third singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win, making the score 4-0.
  • Sophomore Jonathan Gu had a strong victory of 6-0, 6-1 in sixth singles.
  • Jangbahadur won 6-4, 6-0 and Koey won 6-2, 6-0.
