#27 Tartans Sweep Through #17 Mary Washington

(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) - The 27th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team traveled to Fredericksburg, Virginia, for a match against the University of Mary Washington on Thursday, April 3 to start a three-match road trip. The Tartans earned a 7-0 victory over the Eagles to move to 8-5 for the season.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans earned the doubles point after the third position and first position finished first with wins. Sophomore Daniel Kong and freshman Alex Feies won first at third doubles, 6-1, ahead of sophomore Raghav Jangbahadur and freshman Brendan Hendrata won 6-3 at first doubles.
  • Feies finished singles play first with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 1 position.
  • Jangbahadur made it a 3-0 Tartans' lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win at second singles.
  • Kong was third at fourth singles with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 win to earn match point.
  • Hendrata, freshman Braden Chavez, and freshman Takeshi Koey then won their respective matches to complete the sweep.

The Tartans will play 15th-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Friday at 3:00 p.m. before closing the road trip against 32nd-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday. All matches are being played at Mary Washington.
