McGovern and Ivanov Earn All-America at NCAA Indoor Championships

(BIRMINGHAM, Ala.) - Juniors Andrew McGovern and Alex Ivanov of the Carnegie Mellon University men's indoor track and field team earned All-America recognition at the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday for the. The championships are being held at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama, with Birmingham-Southern College serving as the host.

The pair ran in the finals of the 800-meter run with McGovern crossing in 1:51.69 and Ivanov in 1:52.76 to place sixth and seventh, respectively. Ivanov and McGovern become the second Tartan athletes to garner All-America status in the same event at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The other occurrence happened in 2020 when the championships were halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That year the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Executive Committee adopted new criteria that all student-athletes declared and initially accepted into their event, including all relay members, were named All-Americans.
