McGovern and Rich Honored as UAA Athletes of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Junior Andrew McGovern and junior Thomas Rich of the Carnegie Mellon University men's outdoor track and field team were named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week. McGovern earned the honor for running events while Rich for field events.

McGovern competed at the Westminster Invitational on Saturday and won the 400-meter hurdles. He crossed the line in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.83 which is the fastest time to date in Division III. The junior was also on the 4x400-meter relay team that placed first with a time of 3:20.91.

Rich competed on Thursday and Friday at the Susquehanna Multi and won the decathlon with a school record 6,556 points which breaks his own record of 6,464 set last season. The junior won three events, pole vault, long jump and shot put with career-best marks. He cleared the bar at 3.85 meters in the pole vault, jumped 7.08 meters in the long jump and tossed the element 12.32 meters in the shot put. He currently ranks tops in the nation in the decathlon and 23rd in the long jump while ranking tops in the UAA in the long jump.
