Duckworth Breaks Pole Vault School Record as Tartans Host Annual Invite

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team hosted its annual Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Gesling Stadium. The field was comprised of Division I, II and III institutions with the Tartans winning six events.

Top Performances in the Field:

  • Sophomore Christian Duckworth once again broke the school record for the second straight week in the pole vault clearing the bar at 4.88 meters breaking the mark set last week of 4.70 meters. His height of 4.88 meters also tied the Gesling stadium record.
  • Freshman Ryan Handron cleared the bar at 4.32 meters to place fifth in the pole vault.
  • Sophomore Morgan Johnson won the long jump with a leap of 6.71 meters. The sophomore then placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.32 meters.
  • Senior Thomas Rich and junior Sebastian Sanso both cleared the bar at 1.86 meters in the high jump to tie for fifth.
  • Graduate student Jonathan David placed fourth in the javelin with a career-best throw of 51.34 meters.
  • The discus had sophomore Sam Alligood taking second with a throw of 43.92 meters. Alligood also placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 14.50 meters.
  • Freshman Atai Tahasan jumped 13.59 meters to place third in the triple jump.

Top Performances on the Track:

  • The 800-meter run saw a sweep for the Tartans with graduate student Leland Davies crossing in 1:54.68 to win the race. Junior Eamon Brady took second followed by junior Colin McLaughlin with times of 1:55.28 and 1:55.35, respectively. It marked a career-best time for Brady.
  • Senior David Durdaller started the running events off with a first-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase crossing in 9:18.34. Placing fifth was senior Jacob Hsu in 9:41.05.
  • Senior Andrew McGovern placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.55.
  • Junior Matthew Coyle took second in the 5,000-meter after finishing with a time of 14:35.82.
  • Freshmen Adam Kollgaard and Angelo Parrino crossed third and fourth in the 3,000-meter run with times of 8:54.59 and 9:06.10.
  • Rich crossed in 15.52 in the 110-meter hurdles to place fourth.
  • Freshman Jeremy Ocloo placed fourth in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.02, topping his time from a week ago in his first collegiate outdoor meet.
  • McLaughlin and freshman Matthew Short placed third and fourth in the 1,500-meter race, respectively, with times of 3:57.21 and 3:59.21.
  • The 4x400-meter relay team of senior Pranav Rajbhandari, Davies, freshman Philip Ma and McGovern closed the meet with a top finish after posting a time of 3:20.27.
