Rich Breaks Decathlon School Record at Susquehanna Multi; Tartans Compete at Westminster and Bucknell

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon men's track and field team competed in multiple competitions over the weekend. Senior Thomas Rich competed in the Susquehanna Multi Meet, setting a new school record in the decathlon. The Tartans also competed at the Westminster Invitational and the Bucknell Invitational.

Top Performances at the Susquehanna Multi

  • Rich placed first in the decathlon with a new school record of 6,823 points. In the decathlon, Rich tied his personal records in pole vault and the 100-meter dash. He also set two new personal records: a mark of 53.19 meters in the javelin throw and a time of 14.99 in the 110-meter hurdles.

Top Performances at Westminster on Track

  • In the 5000-meter run, the Tartans swept the top 6 places:
  • The Tartans placed second in the 4x400-meter relay. Junior Pranav Rajbhandari, junior Sean Sutton, junior Jackson Ellinger and freshman Philip Ma finished in a time of 3:30.23.
  • Freshman Angelo Parrino placed third in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:12.38.
  • In the 400-meter dash, sophomore Bennett Wong placed sixth with a time of 52.15 and Rajbhandari placed seventh with a time of 52.38.
  • Freshman Matthew Yu placed seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.12.
  • Ellinger placed seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.38.
  • Freshman Gregory Kossuth placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:06.38.

Top Performances at Westminster in Field

  • Sophomore Sam Alligood placed fifth in shot put with a mark of 14.40 meters. He also placed seventh in the discus throw with a mark of 41.66 meters.
  • In javelin throw, freshman Derek Armfield placed fourth with a mark of 53.73 meters and graduate student Jonathan David placed eighth with a mark of 49.94 meters.
  • Sophomore Christian Duckworth placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.62 meters.
  • In the triple jump, freshman Atai Tahasan placed first with a mark of 13.96 meters and freshman Pujith Kachana placed sixth with a mark of 12.56 meters.

Top Performances at Bucknell

  • Junior Matthew Coyle placed tenth in the 10,000-meter run with a school record time of 29:47.14., breaking George Degen time of 30.13.03 from 2015.
  • Senior Andrew McGovern placed ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:50.43.

The Tartans will travel to Slippery Rock University to compete in the Slippery Rock Last Chance Meet. Competition will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18.
