Tartans Lead Field at UAA Outdoor Championships

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team opened the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, April 27 by scoring 98 points through seven scored events on their home track and field at Gesling Stadium, and lead the field of seven teams.

Top Performances on the Track:

  • Senior David Durdaller is a UAA Champion after winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:16.31.
  • Senior Jacob Hsu was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sprinting past Will Liu of Washington University in St. Louis at the end to finish in 9:18.05.
  • The Tartans had three runners place in the top eight of the 10,000-meter run with junior Matthew Coyle placing second in 31:31.96. Graduate student Matthew Porter was fifth in 31:33.84 while senior Charlie Murphy placed eighth in 31:57.25.
  • The 4x800 meter relay took second in 7:40.52 with junior Colin McLaughlin leading off the race, followed by freshman Matthew Short and junior Aleksei Seletskiy, and anchored by senior Andrew McGovern.

Top Performances in the Field:

  • Sophomore Sam Alligood is a UAA Champion in the shot put after tossing the element 15.33 meters. Graduate student Bailey O'Malley also hit 15.33 meters and placed second after a decision by the judge.
  • Sophomore twins Johnathan Crawshaw and Victor Crawshaw recorded career-best marks and placed fourth and seventh, respectively, with marks of 14.06 meters and 13.76 meters.
  • Sophomore Morgan Johnson was second in the long jump after jumping 6.97 meters while senior Thomas Rich was third with a mark of 6.96 meters. Junior Sebastian Sanso hit a personal-best mark of 6.72 meters to place fifth.
  • Alligood also earned points for the Tartans in the hammer throw after placing fourth with a career-best mark of 47.07 meters. Junior Nathaniel Deyak also hit a career-best mark at 45.04 meters and placed fifth.
  • Sophomore Christian Duckworth was fifth in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 4.54 meters. Freshman Ryan Handron was seventh with a mark of 4.39 meters.
