Tartans Win Two Events at All-Atlantic Regional

(CORTLAND, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday and Thursday hosted by SUNY Cortland.

Top Performances on the Track:

  • The 10,000-metere run had graduate student Matthew Porter winning the race with a time of 30:53.72 while senior Charlie Murphy placed fourth in 31:31.23.
  • Freshman Matthew Short won the 1,500-meter run with a season-best time of 3:53.57.
  • A time of 14:47.16 by senior Jacob Hsu in the 5,000-meter run placed him fourth.
  • Senior Andrew McGovern placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.29.
  • Senior David Durdaller took fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after crossing in 9:24.92.
  • Graduate student Leland Davies took eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.09.

Top Performances in the Field:

  • Freshman Derek Armfield took second in the javelin with a school record throw of 60.09 meters.
  • A fourth place showing came from sophomore Sam Alligood in the shot with a career-best throw of 15.93 meters. The sophomore took sixth in the discus also with a career-best throw of 49.65 meters.
  • Sophomore Christian Duckworth cleared the bar at 4.68 meters and placed fifth in the pole vault.

Up Next:

  • The Tartans will now wait for the NCAA to announce the athletes selected to the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will be held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, from Thursday, May 23 through Saturday, May 25.
