Tartans Begin Indoor Season at Youngstown, Bucknell, and Mount Union

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's indoor track and field team opened its 2024-2025 season competing at three different meets over the weekend. On Friday, December 6, some Tartans traveled to Youngstown, Ohio, for the YSU Icebreaker. On Saturday, some Tartans also traveled to the University of Mount Union for the Toy Drive Invite and four athletes traveled to Bucknell University for the Bison Open on Friday and Saturday to compete in the heptathlon.
Top Performances at Youngstown
- In his first collegiate track and field meet, freshman Oliver Moss was the top finisher for the Tartans in the 5,000-meter race. He placed eighth out of 34 athletes with a time of 14:54.57.
- Junior Bennett Wong crossed first for the Tartans in the 200-meter dash, in 19th place out of 78 athletes with a time of 22.60.
- Freshman Ryan Joyce ran the 400-meter dash in a time of 51.84, placing 27th out of 49 athletes in his first collegiate track and field meet.
- Senior Sean Dutton placed fifth out of 20 athletes in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.81. Freshman David Pinero-Jacome finished right behind him in sixth with a time of 1:58.41.
- Junior Morgan Johnson finished sixth out of 38 athletes in the long jump, earning a mark of 6.95 meters.
- Senior Sebastian Sanso placed third out of 21 athletes in the triple jump, earning a mark of 13.41 meters.
Top Performances at Bucknell
- Freshman Luke Freimanis finished first overall in the heptathlon with a total of 5,092 points. Freimanis also finished in the top three in six of the seven events. He placed first in the long jump with a mark of 6.99 meters and first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.25.
- Senior Casey Potrebic placed fifth in the heptathlon with a total of 4,744 points. He finished first in pole vault with a mark of 4.35 meters.
Top Performances at Mount Union
- In the 3,000-meter race, sophomore Nicolo Fasanelli placed first with a time of 8:57.90. Freshman Veyd Patil came in second with a time of 9:00.28.
- In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman Kurt Schimmel placed first with a time of 8.69.
- Sophomore Jeremy Ocloo finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.22. He also placed seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.30.
- Freshman Lucass Knappenberger placed second in the pole vault, earning a mark of 4.38 meters.
- Sophomore Atai Tahasan finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.46 meters.
- Sophomore Johnathan Crawshaw was the top finisher for the Tartans in shot put, earning a mark of 14.23 meters for 6th place.
