Tartans Improve Marks at Spire Midwest Open

(GENEVA, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed in the Spire Midwest Open at the Spire Institute on Saturday, January 25.

Top Field Performances

  • Junior Johnathan Crawshaw placed eighth in the shot put with a career-topping mark of 14.59 meters.
  • Senior Nathaniel Deyak was 12th in the weight throw with a mark of 14.17 meters.
  • Sophomore Atai Tahasan placed sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.17 meters. Senior Sebastian Sanso was ninth in the event with a mark of 12.81 meters.
  • Freshman Lucas Knappenberger was ninth in the pole vault after clearing a career-best 4.40 meters.

Top Track Performances

  • Freshman Oliver Moss placed second in the 5,000-meter run in a career-best14:48.39. Sophomore Nicolo Fasanelli was fifth in 15:05.52 after running the event for the first time.
  • Graduate student Matthew Denton placed seventh in the mile in 4:19.71.
  • Freshman Luke Freimanis won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.15.
  • Senior Sean Dutton finished third in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:56.87.
  • Sophomore Matthew Short took second in the 3,000-meter run in a career-best 8:28.50 with senior Matthew Coyle placing third in 8:29.03. Junior Ryan Podnar was fifth in a career-best 8:33.11.
