Freimanis Places Second in Heptathlon; Potrebic 12th at NCAA Championships

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Freshman Luke Freimanis and junior Casey Potrebic of the Carnegie Mellon University men's indoor track and field team finished competition at the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field  Championships on Saturday, March 15 with All-America honors, as Freimanis placed second and Potrebic 12th in the heptathlon. The championships were held at the Golisano Training Center at Nazareth University.

NCAA Performances

  • Freimanis moved from 12th place to second on the final day of competition with three strong performances to tally a school record 5,161 points to top his previous top score of 5,092.
  • Freimanis took first overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.15 seconds, earning 944 points. He then took fifth in the pole vault for 702 points with a career-best height of 4.30 meters. He also took fifth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:48.60 for 780 points.
  • Potrebic moved from 17th place to 12th to earn All-America Second Team with 4,812 points.
  • Potrebic took sixth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:50.49 for 760 points. He also placed in a three-way tie for second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.40 meters for 731 points after starting the day placing 19th in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.16 seconds.

Notes

  • Freimanis joins 2024 graduate Thomas Rich as a trophy winner in the heptathlon as Rich was fourth in the event last year with 5,114 points.
  • Potrebic earned his first top-16 award at an NCAA Championship.
  • Senior Matthew Coyle also earned All-America Second Team on the first day with a 16th-place finish in the 5,000-meter run for the second award of his career.
